The Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova in the broadcasts of Radio Free Europe

Abstract: Based on the Hoover Archive, Stanford, USA documents, the article discusses how Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty presented the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova on August 27, 1991. In the introductory part, there is a short historical presentation of the events that led to the disintegration of the USSR and the independence of the Union republics. The second part highlights various reports from the microphone of Free Europe on the path to independence of the Republic of Moldova, comments on the statements of some leaders in Chisinau, the echo of the Declaration of Independence in international media, reactions of Romanians everywhere and some opinions on the prospects of the young state. The conclusions stated the role of RFE / RL in informing the world about the situation in the USSR, respectively, in the Republic of Moldova and the contribution of this radio station to the promotion of freedom, democracy and the defense of human rights.
